NIGEL PARRY_PDN

I just got the latest issue of PDN and sucked into the interview with NIgel Parry. Truly an amazing photographer that most noted for his “gritty” black and white portraits. I love when interviews really uncover a vulnerable side to a person. It shows honesty. And not mention makes me feel better about the way I am in certain situations. We’re all human.

Here’s a few highlights from the article.

‘i’ve never understood how you can give your work to someone else to print. HOw can that person know what you were trying to say when you were taking the picture?

‘Shooting a photo is nerve wracking. I’m know as one of the most sweaty people on a shoot. I’m so desperate to do well. You are making a comment about someone for everyone to see.”

MY FAVORITE:
When you are looking into the camera and the rest of the world does not exist, thats the right moment to press the shutter.”

“I always say anything for a photo. If you have to drop your trousers to get a laugh, by all means, drop your trousers.”

Also, worth a mention, Andrew Hetherington from What’s the Jackanory? blog was awarded a well deserved 3rd place in the Digital Self Promo Awards. If you have never read his blog, please do. I think its the first time a blog has won as Self Promo tool. Congrats AH.

10 YEARS

10 years ago today I married my beautiful wife Dana. We were young, scared and naive. The world was big. The road was long and windy. But, there we sat with open hearts ready to face this world together. We had found comfort in companionship and the confidence to vulnerably march into the darkness. We’ve had bumps along the way: disagreements, arguments, and selfish opinions. How do you think we’ve grown and learned about one another? The good will always outweigh the hard times, but it is the challenging moments that takes up deeper. Each honest step we take, opens up another level of trust and solidity.

So, with that, THANK YOU MY LOVE. Thank you for taking the walk with me. Thank you for keeping me honest. Thank you loving me and letting me love you fully and without compromise. You are much more than just my wife and I have enjoyed the discovery of the so many things you are to me.

TO THE REST OF OUR LIVES… THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY. TOGETHER WE STAND.

WITH MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT,
JOSH : )

TREES / LUNGS :: A STUDY IN PARALLEL #2

It’s a pretty valid argument to say that everything in this world is connected. From the circle of life beginning with splitting atoms or the splitting of an embryo, a pattern is born. Our bodies grow and shift like the tectonic plates of this earth. There is life and death of something all the time. We breath in, we breath out. We sleep, we wake. We eat, we digest. So, anyways…I like to consider myself a visual person. And, occasionally this natural phenomenon of “relationship” comes to life right in front of our eyes. I was cruising through my photo archives as I often do and came across this photo of a tree. Its a perfect reflection of a glass calm morning on the Amazon River. I have always been fascinated with trees. They really visually represent themselves with branches reaching towards sunlight, tough skin to withstand the weather and some leaves for good measure. But this tree looked different this time around. I thought about about the reflection and how accurate it probably was to the root pattern somewhere below the surface. Then I turned the photo on its side and it became something completely different.

I can’t think of a better way to illustrate the fact that trees help give off oxygen for us to breathe. thank you trees. we are one.
